A Day in the Park

A 3.2 mile round stroll

to the north along the Taff River bank

to join the avenue

crossing the Blackweir Bridge.

From Merthyr Tydfil

down to Cardiff Bay

creating a roar.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary, 1949 to 2019, of the Park being open to the public, prior to which it belonged to the 5th Marquess of Bute.

Not at all sure what attracted them here.

The stone circle with an autumn touch,

with Tolkien tree. Time to leave.

Down  to Penarth Martina via the zig zag way.

St. Fagans

To see the last of the magnolia's flowers.

Gek contemplating the litter.

Cefn Onn - Autumn Colours

Walking though the park to The Dingle,

passing the acers

and these strange, fighting trees,

to reach the pond.

A walk on the wild side.

Llanishen Reservoir.

Off for a walk around the lake.

A major upgrading was done between 2017 and 2020.

Including a new cafe where we had a lovely lunch.

Roath Park

A short train ride,

on an almost electrified track.

Heath Park Model Railway

It is a modelled railway, honest. What an unexpected find.

And so realistic.

We will be back when the trains are running.

Heath Park

 A corner to relax in.

Garwnant Park

A drive out to the Beacons for a walk and a lunch.

A very Tolkien walk it was too, with vivid green moses

on the trees and on the forrest floor.

Out for a Walk

 Across the viaduct,

for walk in the tunnel of trees, an old railway line that used to go all the way to Hereford.

Lunch at the Manor House

In freezing temperatures but beneath a clear blue sky, we took off to the Manor to take lunch out for a change.

Lunch won't be long.

Time off from Sewing to See the Sea

Is that the Sun or the Moon?

T'was the sun. The Knap in the distance.

Gek in winter cladding casting a midday shadow, looking forward to a lunch at Mrs Marcus's Cafe.

Dare Valley Walk

We found the top car park on this second visit.

There are three lakes all with plenty of birds afloat on them

Welsh clouds make the scene again.

Cwmcarn Forest Drive

P3 for a look back the way we just came.

P5 for a view of Pen y Fan, some 30+ miles to the north.

Bathed in sunshine.

As was this house in the forest.

On to P6 and a short walk,

passing the growing young pines,

to see the long view south over the Channel towards Devon. Clouds make the picture.

A short rest before the walk back to car.

Llandegfedd Reservoir Visit

There is a lowering of the water level due to maintenance work being done on dams overflow tower.

The water is also lower due to the current drought Wales is suffering.

But that did not stop us enjoying a lunch on the cafe terrace.
