Bridgnorth

Bridge to Town.

Unfortunately there was repair work being done where Wilson actualy stood for this image, No Access.

Market Square.

What ever would we do with cars these days?  Couldn't get closer without causing an acident.  Forgot to zoom!

What was the Castle keep.

The trees have grown a bit more.

At the bottom of the hill, at the town end of the bridge.

Same, same.

Much Wenlock

On the way to find Wilson's subjects.

But first lunch in a quirky cafe.

Approaching the town via Queen  Street.

I had to ask at the town's visitors centre to find where this image was taken, having failed to do so on google Map.

No problem with this one.

No change here.

Affcot Lodge.

One of Wilson's selfies at the Lodge having an afternoon tea.

Sadly the place is now more or less derelict.  So, drive on by.

Wilson's 1939 Trip, Stokesay Castle.

In 1939, the tudor entrance to castle.

2022, now under the management of English Heritage.

1939, the castle.

Nothing changed over the 83 intervening years.

1939, the church entrance gateway.

2022, a little more lush.

Ok, just had to pose for this one.

Wilson's 1939 trip, Wigmore

2022.  It took a while to match the two photgraphs. I was looking for the curved roof building, since demolished.

Staick House, Eardisland, 80 Years On

Finally we have cleared the loft at the Litchard bungalow and retrieved Granddad's original photo album of his Border counties cycling trip, dated July 1939.

And the man himself, Wilson.

Granddad did selfies.  This is 1939, a selfie with his trusty bike.

Me in 2017.  A little over grown in the interim.

The oldest part of the house dates from the 13 hundreds.  We trespassed to get the photo, not aware that someone still lives here.

Pembridge 80 Years On

The New Inn in July 1939.  Granddad's black and white.

May 2017.  Much the same, save for the car.

The Bell Tower built in  the 14th century.

Again, not much change.

Tewkesbury

In 1939, my grandad Wilson  photographed  The Olde Black Bear pub.  He was on a cycling holiday, starting in Lemington Spar and ending in Bridge North to take the tran back to Bolton in Lancashire.

This day, I was here with two of his great, great grandchildren, Isaac and Noah.

Bidford-on-Avon

Granddad  Wilson was here in June 1939 on his epic bicycle ride from Leamington Spa to Bridgnorth and, since we were motoring by,

we just had to stop and stand, more or less where he stood 80 years ago.
