Back to Play Time

Gek to a Penarth Pier front image in felt,

me to the new marquetry station on an adapted shoe cabinet.

The Goodbyes

Bye to the car, Alice and Mary-Ann.

Taiping

 Across the Second Bridge

to visit the famous Rain Trees.  There was a bit of a storm last January that did for a couple of trees.  But they some how survived.

A beautiful and peace full place.

With the recent rains, the water level was very high, much higher than on our last visit.

We just had to visit the Antong coffee mill, the source of our favourite ground coffee whilst living in Penang.

 Still the same old mills

A cup that size would definitely make you head spin.

New Year Day 2019

A day's plan abandoned.  We had intended to take the jeep up Penang Hill from the Botanical Gardens  but the queue to enter the car park was backed up to the traffic lights, well over 1 km. So we turned and headed for the E&O hotel for a refreshing drink and the peace and quiet following which we dropped Alice and Mary-Ann off at Queensbay Mall for an afternoons shopping spree.

Balik Pulau

The view across Balik Pulau from Anjung Indah.

Actually, we were here due to a wrong turn but which for Gek and Mary-Ann, turned out to be a right turn. Durian. Alice and I left them to enjoy, only suffering when we had to let them back into the car. Terrible, lingering stink the fruit has.

A favourite house passed on the way to

Gurney drive.

Genting Hill

Day two: we called on the way to GH at the Gertak Sunggul beach,

for a photo opportunity

before a lunch on the Hill

in the company of  venomous Wagler's pit vipers in the rafters.

and the quirky displays still in place.

But in truth, a perfect place to relax and reflect.

Suffolk House.

Having picked up the hire car, afternoon high tea at the House

Georgetown

 And awaiting our Kway Teow

One duck egg and one chicken egg. As good as was.

And so on to Penang

First morning, a walk across the newly completed SPICE on our way to the bus stop.

A rooftop garden with Relau Indah condo peeping above the roof.

And framed by it. What a change over the last three years.

Unexpected Visitor

Marni was in town for the weekend giving us the chance to say au revoir.  She made us a present, a little cardboard house made from postcards. Cute.

Choon Ean joined us for lunch. The next one might be together in Wales?

Off to Caerphilly

64 boxes. Our art and dollhouses packed to go.

Making sure we have got "Them on the List".  After our Mongolian, Singaporean and Malaysian adventures, we are setting off yet again, this time for a Welsh adventure.

Putrajaya

A short trip to Putrajaya to terminate our MM2H visa's.  The Firefly plane flies low giving great views of the peninsular's mountains.

Putrjaya is the government's administration centre, a 'new town' build around a series of man made lakes.

The architecture I find  confusingly varied.

Going from  Soviet Style with knobs on,

to over the top traditional.

The Pullman Hotel, where we stayed one night though, was a haven of rest.

Patrick Lasak

In May this year Patrick passed away.  We knew Patrick as an acquaintance we met on occasion at art shows we attended in Penang.  Always a cheery fellow, he will be missed by all who met him. RIP Patrick.

Richard's Visit - Suffolk House and the Kek Lok Si Temple

Such a handsome fellow. Afternoon tea at the Suffolk. Earl Grey anyone?

 Si, identical statues.

Moon gate over looking Georgetown.

Richard's Visit - Colonial Museum

Not unlike the Black and White I have as a model.

But the contents of the house couldn't be more different and not at all what we expected as a Colonial Museum.

The museum's artifacts are the item's collected by the owner over the last 50 years or so and are European piece's originally the property of the Euro-centric Chinese  Penang business men.

Quite an unusual and interesting mix of west and east.

Richard's Visit - Armenian Street.

To the Teochew  puppet museum, where Rich demonstrated his new found puppeteering talent, minus the Chinese, of course.

The costumes details are quite something.  Not sure how we missed this lovely place during our 5 year stay in Penang.

Next door to the Sun Yat Sen Museum with Richard planning his next move, aka Sun.

Richard's Visit - The North Coast

First to the north coast of the island.

With a mandatory stop for coconut.

And of course, an evening up Genting hill to watch the sun set.
