Tianaman and the Forbidden City lie on a North – South line, some 2 km long if you take into account the Jinsan at the north end of the complex. This is the south gate, looking south……much more interesting than the other side!!!

Then comes Mao’s Mausoleum. Much bigger than Lenin’s in Red Square. The changing of the guard, which is just about to happen, involves handing over a pistol, one solder to the other. That should stop the hoards of tourists mis-behaving!

Round Mao is the square proper. Big. The police have a loud speaker on a car advising people not to buy from the traders standing around the car. Hummm.

The entrance to the Forbidden City . This was the only picture of Mao I saw all week. Something ironic about the picture being on a structure which symbolizes what he sought to over turn, don’t you think?
