Backpackering 3 - Salisbury

Our last 'port of call' on this 3rd Backpackering experience.

A visit to the 18th century NT Mompesson House.  Well worth the time spent there.

The NT acquired the house empty, furnishing it with Georgian period furniture from its national collection.

American Queen  Anne furniture designs were based on earlier Georgian ones. I fance having a crack at making a miniature copy of this dumbwaiter. Let's see how.

Backpackering 3 - St. Leonards-on-Sea

A walk over to Hastings neighbour past wind swept trees,

to share a sea view with Victoria.

On the esplanade a weather station

with the weather indicated as it is on the day.

Back in Hastings for afternoon tea, lovely.

Backpackering 3 - Hastings

Climbing the 170+ steps to the top of the east cliff. Needed a rest.

Gorgeous.

The old town.

Backpackering 3 - Rye

The Town's Gate, the only one of four to survive.

A 1742 painting when the sea was much, much closer. At that time, there could have been 200+ ships queuing to unload at the port.

Norman Castle built 1249.

Reminded me of the dollhouse dinner table,

in The Lamb House. A very interesting history, go Google it.

Backpackering 3 - Bexhill

Outside the De La Warr Pavillion,

enjoying the sea view.

Then on to the Bexhill Museum,

with something for both of us to enjoy. The car on the right, an Elva, was built here in Bexhill in 1958, in a similar way to how Morgans are, by hand. The first UK car race was run along the Esplanade in May 1902 organised by the local Earl after he witnessed such an event in France.

Backpackering 3 - Hastings

The legacy of wealth past.

The long view.

The working beach. The boats are dragged up the pebbled beach by tractor, the catch being sold at the beach head.

Backpackering 3 - Seven Sisters

After a stroll down to the sea, The Sisters came into view. Now to find The Ditch.

Past a beautiful viewing point.

Found it, at last.

The second cywch.

Backpackering 3 - Seaford

To the beach,

and sit a while viewing

the cliffs that defeated us. Ok try again tomorrow from the other side.

Backpackering 3 - Brighton

 Waiting for the off.

Down to the beach. Not grumpy,  honest.

That's more like it.

Waiting for frip and tips by the beach. Best tasted for some time.

Backpackering 3 - Portsmouth

Our first stop on our third backpackers trip. A jaunt along the English South Coast

Down to the harbour front where the ports long history is recognised.

My favourite sculpture.  Where will my life take me.

By chance the Waverley was heading down the estuary.

Grangemoor Park

Catch the number 305 Cardiff bus at the pier, alight at Penarth's Tesco, cross the Ely River foot bridge and walk the Ely Trail to the Park.

St. Augustin Church atop the cliff, way over there.

Back down the river to a newly found Coffi co opposite the Tesco store. Neat.
