Walking through San Sebastian town to the sea front, passing an interesting facade
and the Hotel de Londres,
to see our objectives for the days stroll, the Urgull Hill and the Old Town.
Could not resist taking this photo, like the palm growing out of Urgull.
The waves from the open sea grow as they enter the bay, giving these fishermen a bit of a rough ride.
The first objective on the foot of Urgull, was to see this sculpture, 'Empty Construction' by Jorge Oteiza. A play with the relationship between the solid form and the void, by creating a negative space in the sculpture itself. Of course, I googled for that!
The sculpture is a little above sea level on the left of Urgull from where we intended to climb the 400 feet
to the La Mota Castle atop it.
Well, we didn't even make halfway up before chickening out. Puffed out we were.
But managed the Engish Cemetery.
Here is buried one Whiliam Tupper. Tap the photo to read the rest.
Instead of engaging reverse, we continued on the path around Urgull's base, to the Baluarte del Mirador, for a view of the distant Pyrénées.
and Gros's Zurriola beach.
Onward and downward
to Koruko Andre Mariaren basilica
to see a very different sculpture opposite, father and son fishing for the people below.
Walking on to Constitution Plaza, built in 1817, are the remnants of another game, bull fighting. The numbered balconies overlooking the square served as private spectator boxes for the fights.
Walking back along the seafront, we spotted this couple contemplating making a crack at reaching the diving platform.
Ok, off they went, under surfing the waves. Didn't stay to see if they made it.
After all the excitement of the stroll, homeward bound passing San Sebastian's Buen Pastor Cathedral
and the 'leaning turret' of San Seb on the way. A very different day this day - 49 images captured, 21 displayed! Not bad for 6 hours on shanks pony.
